Wow… I had such a great time at the HOW Design Conference last week. I’m not even quite sure where to begin! Right now, I’m just trying to organize my thoughts, notes & pictures into some sort of form that makes sense. There’s nothing like a whirlwind trip to rejuvenate the mind, body & soul. However, soooo glad to be back in the land of “sane” temperatures… I think it got up to 104 degrees in Austin! Will post more shortly…

I’m in the process of designing monograms and wedding invitations for one of my best friends… and I must admit I’m having a blast doing it! Check out the next page for more possibilities… and let me know what you think.

June 18th, 2009everything, randomSo I was watching abc7’s coverage yesterday of the L.A. Lakers celebration parade through downtown… Umm… did it really last for 3.5 hours? Yes, yes it did. And did I watch the whole thing? Yes, yes I did. I was more wildly entertained by the commentators than anything else. I was cracking up at how they managed to find something to say for a 3 vehicle parade. Not to mention they were obviously hoping for a riot of some sort, despite their PC comments “oh gee, we really hope nothing bad happens…” But then again, who doesn’t hope for a flipped car now and again. As long as it’s not mine of course.

Amazing woodwork by craftsman/artisan Dave Rhoden out of Venice, CA. Each piece is one-of-a-kind as evidenced by this latest piece. His work is both beautiful and functional. Check out more images of this unique bowl on the next page… And if you’re interested in ordering one for yourself, please let me know!

Some great/insightful photography by Dina Goldstein over at JPG Magazine. Each shot shows a fairy tale princess in real world scenarios, from Belle undergoing plastic surgery, to an overweight Little Red Riding Hood. Definately an original concept that invites conversation…

June 12th, 2009design, everythingBritish street artist Banksy just opened his “Summer Show” in Bristol, completely taking over the Bristol Museum. I desperately want to go check it out! His public work shows up on the sides of buildings, walls, sidewalks, etc. and is at times insightful, humorous, and unsettling… and always in-your-face. If you’re unfamiliar with the anonymous artist (he’s never revealed his true identity… begging the question “Who is Banksy?”) check out some of his illegal/controversial graffiti on the next page.

ONE is a global advocacy and campaigning organization backed by more than 2 million people from around the world dedicated to fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa.
Besides having a beautiful, clean website, they are doing real and relevant work to make the world a better place. In their latest political endeavor, they are asking the public to petition senators to cosponsor legislation that will enable them to help 100 million people gain access to clean water and sanitation by 2015.
Please consider signing the petition to help ONE improve access to clean water and sanitation for the world’s poorest people by asking your senators to cosponsor the Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act of 2009 (S. 624).
This important legislation is stuck in the Committee on Foreign Relations, and it needs at least 20 cosponsors in order to get the attention of Senate leaders.
Go to the next page for a video that brings home the reality for those without clean water.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m working on honing my organizational skills… slowly but surely. The [IN]PLACE System by Peter Walsh (offered through OfficeMax) seems like it could be my answer. True, it’s nothing new: folders, tabs, binder clips, files… but they way in which they present it on their website is sheer marketing genius. A filing system has never looked so sexy! Plus you get to clear off a messy desk with just the click of a mouse… If only real life were so easy…Check out more screen grabs on the next page.
