Stuff We Like

So I was watching abc7’s coverage yesterday of the L.A. Lakers celebration parade through downtown… Umm… did it really last for 3.5 hours? Yes, yes it did. And did I watch the whole thing? Yes, yes I did. I was more wildly entertained by the commentators than anything else. I was cracking up at how they managed to find something to say for a 3 vehicle parade. Not to mention they were obviously hoping for a riot of some sort, despite their PC comments “oh gee, we really hope nothing bad happens…” But then again, who doesn’t hope for a flipped car now and again. As long as it’s not mine of course.

Ok, we are obsessed with Skype. Every time I talk on it, I feel like I’m living in the future. I recently talked to my parents and had a 7 minute conversation consisting of, “I can see you! Can you see me?!? I can see you!” The future is here. We can now video chat… oh and it’s free! Grand recently had a Skype phone “business conference” consisting of Heather, myself, and our good friend (and journalist extraordinaire) Joann Groff… alright, so it was less business and more just goofing off on Skype. I was down in San Diego this past weekend and I happened to stumble upon this quirky little beach house. Whoever lives here made me smile with their happy paintings and poems. I don’t think enough people step away from the norm when it comes to the paint job on their home. How could you not pull into your driveway without a grin on your face with a unicorn welcoming you back?

Look who was spotted at Shecky’s Girls Night Out! Grand was out in full force, celebrating yet another Shecky’s event. What could be a more brilliant/dangerous combination than free alcohol + shopping? So genius, we wish we had thought of it. Besides being a great excuse to drop some money, it was also a good place to scope out new fashion designers and boutiques. Check out more pics from the experience on the next page.

Wow, I just got hooked on the Sundance Channel… their website is hilarious. I’m completely addicted to Green Porno, a series of short films simplifying the reproductive habits of animals. The clips are both funny and informative—what a great combo. Go here to check it out! While you’re there, you can take a quiz to see what your seduction style is… and answer questions like the one posted above!

In honor of my soon-to-be-born nephew, I present Baby’s First Tattoo—A Memory Book for Modern Parents. While I am by no means a “baby person,” this book by Jim Mullen cracked me up so much that I had to get it for the baby shower. This is not your typical “Baby’s-First” book, and contains often forgetten precious moments such as Baby’s First Projectile Vomit, Baby’s First Tantrum in a Crowded Grocery Store, and Baby’s 10,000th Dirty Diaper. The illustrations by Barry Blitt are just as humerous as the writing… Buy it for the next baby shower you have to attend here. Bob Dylan has a new album out—his 33rd according to iTunes. I have to say, I love me some Bob Dylan. It is true, I have gotten in bar brawls over this man. After hearing a few of the new songs on the album, though, I have to say he’s sounding a tad Tom Waits-ish these days. But, I’m still diggin’ it… and the sepia toned photography. You even get a nice “digital booklet” when you purchase on iTunes. Glad that album artwork isn’t dying out…

I just saw “Earth” this weekend… Not only is the story of the three animals touching, the cinematography was truly breathtaking. I left in awe of mother nature and the amazing filmmakers who took the viewer on a fantastic journey. Check out the website for some great shots.
